I recently went to Universal Studios in Los Angeles to live out my childhood dreams of being in Hogwarts. Before going, I was a bit concerned that I would have a hard time finding vegan food at Universal Studios Hollywood to accommodate my dairy intolerance. I was also travelling with a girl friend who has been vegan since 2016. My friend said when she used to visit theme parks as a vegan, she would just have to starve while everyone else was eating (lol), or pack granola bars. I’m happy to report that times have changed since we last visited Universal Studios and there were plenty of vegan options for both of us!

Three Broomsticks – Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Three Broomsticks is the restaurant located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area of Universal Studios Hollywood (Upper Lot). There we were pleasantly surprised to find two enjoyable vegan options: the Irish Stew with plant based beef tips and potato stew, and the Shepherd’s Pie with vegan ground beef as a substitute. Both dishes are served with a side of fresh salad. The portions aren’t huge, but both dishes were quite filling as they were carb-heavy.
Also located in the Harry Potter section of Universal Studios Hollywood are multiple drink stalls selling the famous Butterbeer. You can also order this drink at the Three Broomsticks restaurant. As a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and movies, I was super excited to try Butterbeer. I was ecstatic to learn that both variations of the beverage (soda or slushie) can be made vegan by omitting the foam. We opted for the slushie because we were told that it’s not as sweet as the soda. The slushie had a lovely butterscotch taste that wasn’t overly sweet or artificial tasting.
Krusty Burger – Springfield U.S.A.
In the Springfield U.S.A. or Simpsons-themed area of Universal Studios Hollywood (Upper Lot), there are nine different restaurants/food stalls you can choose from! Sadly most of them don’t have vegan options. We were looking for something a little more substantial as we were starving from our flight, so we went to Krusty Burger. Krusty Burger offers one vegan option on their menu, the Mother Nature Burger using Beyond vegan burger meat, served with lettuce, tomato, pickles and veganaise. This was a pretty standard Beyond meat burger, nothing special, but it definitely does the trick when you’re hungry as it’s quite filling. Unfortunately the fries are made with dairy, so we opted for a boring salad.
Overall we were pretty pleased with the vegan food at Universal Studios Hollywood! All the dishes we tried were quite tasty and filling enough to get us through the long day.
