We celebrated my belated birthday with a spa escape at the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa and while we were there, we really enjoyed exploring the food scene in Courtenay BC. There were three food spots in Courtenay that we loved the most, keep reading to find out what they were. To read more about our stay at the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort, click here.
ATLAS CAFÉ
We had a lovely dinner at Atlas Café in downtown Courtenay. There’s a hidden patio out back, which makes a great setting for a date night. We had the Black and Blue Burger, which was very hearty and delicious. They were able to accommodate our dairy allergy as well. The restaurant can get quite busy so I’d recommend calling ahead to check on the wait. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated, which wasn’t a big deal as we just went for a walk through downtown Courtenay. Reservations are only allowed for groups of six persons, and the rest is walk-in.

OFF MAIN
We were looking for a cozy place to have a hearty brunch, and Off Main definitely delivered! Off Main is a fun little breakfast and brunch restaurant with lots of personality. The staff are super nice and knowledgeable about the menu, they were able to accommodate our dairy allergy here as well. I had the mushrooms on toast and the boyfriend had the very hearty “All Of It”, with three eggs any style accompanied by a choice of any three sides. Of the food spots in Courtenay we dined at, this was at the top of our list as a favourite.

BLUE SPRUCE ICE CREAM
I was craving sweets after brunch so we went to Blue Spruce Ice Cream, a small batch ice cream shop in downtown Courtenay. The ingredients are artisanal and locally sourced, plus they are very environmentally conscious. I was super excited to see that they had many dairy free options and I had a hard time choosing as they had a vegan ice cream flavours such as toasted coconut and caramel coconut (vegan flavours are rotating). I ended up getting one of their delicious vegan ice cream sandwiches. Blue Spruce Ice Cream has outdoor seating where we were able to sit in the sun and enjoy our ice cream.
