I recently spent a weekend exploring vegan restaurants in L.A. with my friend who’s been vegan for over six years now. We were so impressed by the wide variety of delicious options. It had me wishing that Vancouver had some of these amazing restaurants too.

NIC’S ON BEVERLY
Nic’s on Beverly is a beautiful plant-based restaurant near Beverly Grove and West Hollywood available for brunch, lunch and dinner. We went for brunch and were delighted to find delicious options including traditional breakfast options, likes omelets and pancakes. My friend ordered the Breakfast Sandwich with “sausage”, shallot potato cake , vegan egg and a side of breakfast potatoes. I had the Benedict with organic tofu, English muffin and tomato hollandaise. The tomato hollandaise was lovely, it’s so rare to find vegan hollandaise sauces, but my favourite dish for our brunch meal was the Breakfast Sandwich.

PURA VITA
Pura Vita is the first 100% plant-based Italian restaurant in the US and one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever been to. I really wish we had something comparable in Vancouver. With my dairy allergy, Italian cuisine is challenging for me and I’ve really missed eating creamy pasta dishes over the years. At Pura Vita, you can find plant-based takes on Italian classics like carbonara, cacio e pepe, calzone and much more. I was in heaven!
We went to Pura Vita’s West Hollywood location and opted for the carbonara, linguine di mare and calzone. The portions were very hearty and we were stuffed. This was definitely at the top of my list of favourite vegan restaurants in L.A. I can’t wait to plan a return visit!

CHAUMONT BAKERY
Another thing I’ve been lacking in my life due to my dairy allergy is croissants! Chaumont Vegan is a French bakery in Beverly Hills with the most amazing selection of plant-based baked goods and organic coffee. They have just about every flavour of croissant, including ube, almond, chocolate, guava and much more. Their selection includes sweet and savoury options. I went for breakfast and had a small pizza for breakfast with an ube croissant and latte. If I were a local, I would definitely frequent this café!
Note: Chaumont has two bakeries located side by side, one is vegan and one is not. Make sure you are in the vegan bakery before you place your order!

BODHI KOSHER THAI
Bodhi Kosher Thai is a small, casual restaurant in Beverly Hills serving Thai-inspired vegan and kosher food. The dishes are so flavourful it makes me not miss meat at all. We had the Pumpkin Eggplant Lover dish on the recommendation of our server, who said it is her favourite dish of the entire menu. The portions were very generous, I could barely finish my meal which came with a side of brown rice. I would love to return to this restaurant.

FONUTS
Though not fully plant-based, Fonuts has a great variety of vegan donuts included in their daily offerings. Their donuts are baked and not fried, plus they’re all gluten-free as well using almond flour! We enjoyed the vegan vanilla latte donut and the black and white donut which was a mix of vanilla and chocolate.
