6 Gems in Squamish, BC

Squamish, BC is known for its beautiful landscape and outdoor activities, but did you know it also has an amazing food and drink scene? Here are my recommendations for great spots to dine in Squamish.

ALICE & BROHM

Strawberry & Blueberry Basil

I have to admit I’m not usually a fan of fruit-flavoured ice cream, but I absolutely loved the real fruit ice cream from Alice & Brohm! I tried their feature Blueberry Basil flavour and my friend had the strawberry. We were both really impressed by the quality and liked that it wasn’t too sweet. Alice & Brohm uses locally-sourced fruit from various locations in BC and the staff blend it on the spot for fresh, made to order ice cream. I was very happy that a coconut-based option was available for dairy-intolerant people like me!  However, it is blended in the same blender as the regular dairy bases, so there is cross-contamination. If you have a severe dairy allergy, then I would recommend their popsicles.

CLIFFSIDE CIDER

Cider flight for those who can’t make up their minds.

Cider fans rejoice! Cliffside Cider is a literal hidden gem in Squamish, tucked away from street view. Its entrance is easy to miss if you’re driving by, but signs out front will lead you down a narrow side pathway. They have a great selection of craft ciders on tap, made with local ingredients. My personal favourite was the Chicha da Pina or the “Unicorn Pee”, followed closely by the OG House Apple . Indoor seating is limited, but the real treat is sitting on their back patio, where you’ll have an amazing view of the mountains. Also parked in the back is Flipside Burgers, a food truck that serves stacked burgers and the most delicious curly fries.

KULULU CAFÉ

Kululu Café is an amazing gem of a restaurant in Squamish, serving healthy and (mostly) organic Japanese food. They have delicious rice and noodle bowls, with lots of gluten-free and vegan options.  We thoroughly enjoyed their noodle dishes. The soba and udon were cooked perfectly and the broths though seemingly simple, were packed with flavour! If I lived in Squamish, there is no doubt that I would frequent this café. The staff were lovely too. There’s also a grocery section in the back of the restaurant with Japanese snacks like Pocky and instant noodles.

FOX & OAK

Newly opened Fox & Oak is a coffee and doughnut shop located in the heart of downtown Squamish. I am a sucker for doughnuts, so any time I find a place with vegan options I have to give it a try! Fox & Oak specializes in hand-crafted doughnuts. You can choose between brioche or cake doughnuts, with a varied selection of flavours. There are also vegan and gluten-friendly options, along with rotating monthly features. From their vegan flavours, I enjoyed the Apple Fritter the most.

MAGS 99

Mags 99 is a well-loved Squamish staple, known for its fried chicken and Mexican food. The restaurant has since moved from its original location off the Sea to Sky Highway to a strip mall. If you’re looking for a quick spot to grab a snack or casual food in Squamish, this is a great choice. When I went they were operating out of a food truck, with their storefront location opening soon. The food is fresh and the service is quick.

THE CRABAPPLE CAFÉ

The Crabapple Café is a small breakfast café located in Brackendale, a small community within Squamish. It’s an unpretentious restaurant serving traditional breakfast and brunch options, like eggs benny, hash and omelettes. It’s a popular spot, so there was a bit of a wait when I went, but it was definitely worth it! We really enjoyed the eggs benedict and avocado toast.
